A camp of the Assam Rifles of the Indian military at Yairipok in Thoubal district with a mission to protect a water reservoir is attacked by suspected terrorists who fired grenades and other explosives on January 27. Later, a spokesman for the United National Liberation Front (UNLF) claims that the attack was carried out by its armed wing, the Manipur People’s Army, which has been fighting for what it called an “Independent Manipur.”
