Hungary abrogates a 1977 treaty with Czechoslovakia concerning construction of the Gabčíkovo–Nagymaros project based on environmental concerns. Slovakia continues construction unilaterally, completes the dam, and diverts the Danube into a canal inside the Slovakian republic. Massive public protest and movement of military to the border ensue; issue taken to the International Court of Justice.

Damage to the Donetsk Filter Station from shelling as well as gunfire directed at water station staff affects the reliability of water supply to approximately 350,000 people. This event is related to previous disruptions in water services from similar attacks in 2017.

Most of the villages and towns in the southwest portion of the Lugansk region in Ukraine lose access to their water supply after fighting damages a water main.
